McDonald’s Shrek Glasses might just kill you. This is the latest product controversy as McDonald’s Shrek glasses were recalled due to the presence of Cadmium in the paints used for the glasses. The McDonald’s Shrek glass recall came after someone called Jackie Speier (D-Hillsborough) and informed her about the dangerous substance in the said glasses.

McDonald’s order the recall of some 12 million Shrek glasses all over the United States. The fast food giant had four Shrek glasses design which includes Shrek, Princess Fiona, Puss in Boots and Donkey. Each glass is selling for $1.99.

The glasses where part of the promotional items for the newest Shrek movie, “Shrek Forever After.” McDonald’s is use to selling items like this in their fast food chains which are said to be cheaply made in order to gain at least a profit and at the same time promote their products and the movie.

Cadmium is a chemical which is used in paints and said to cause kidney, lung, intestinal and bone damage. For those who have already purchased any of the Shrek glasses they are advised to keep it away from children and return them immediately to McDonalds for a refund.

The Mcdonald’s Shrek recall was voluntarily made by McDonalds and have also asked the Associated Press to published their refund instructions for those who have already purchased it.

“Although McDonald’s did the right thing by recalling these products, we need stronger testing standards to ensure that all children’s products are proven safe before they hit the shelves,” says Speier.
