Deepest condolences for the family of New York Yankees’ The Boss, George Steinbrenner. He died early Tuesday after suffering a massive heart attack in his Tampa home.
His death would have been a great loss for the club as well the whole NCAA family. Renowned for a hand-on exective, Steinbrenner has become an influential icon in the Yankees. He has also been known to have a role in driving up player salaries.
He has owned the club for the longest time and during his reign, the Yankees earned 11 pennants and 7 World Series titles. Steinbrenner has also been awarded The Flying Wedge Award, one of the NCAA’s highest honors.
Yankees owe a lot from Steinbrenner as he and his companion saved their club before. If not because of him, Yankees could not be existing today. During that time Yankees had been struggling during their years under CBS ownership and Steinbrenner and minority partner Burke led a group of investors, which included Lester Crown, John DeLorean and Nelson Bunker Hunt, in purchasing the Yankees from CBS for the amount of $10 million.
Condolences to the family of The Boss.
